Arsene Wenger has admitted to feeling 'a little bit lost' following Arsenal's defeats in all three cup competitions.

The Gunners' draw against PSV Eindhoven last week proved insufficient to progress in the UEFA Champions League and it means Wenger's team have exited three cup competitions in the space of a fortnight.

Wenger is desperate to lift his side for Wednesday's Premiership match against Aston Villa and hopefully close the gap on Manchester United and Chelsea but the Frenchman admits the recent loss of form has come as a shock.

"Recently we've hit the wall a little bit," said Wenger.

"Not spectacularly but enough that we are not able to push on like on Wednesday night [against PSV].

"On Wednesday we looked for something special but it didn't come because at the moment it is not in the team.

"It's the first time it has happened and I'm a little bit lost at the moment.

"I'm always planning for the next game but at the moment it is a shock to the system as a club because it's the first time, but I am very busy planning for the Premier League.

"After such a disappointment it's difficult to pick yourself up again, but on the other hand I know how proud they are and how much they want to show that they have quality and finish as close as possible to Manchester United and Chelsea."

Injuries have severely hampered Arsenal's quest, with Thierry Henry recently sidelined for the rest of the season.

"We could have Mathieu Flamini and Justin Hoyte back [against Villa] and Tomas Rosicky will be a little bit short," he added.

"But we lose Gael Clichy, who is suspended and injured, and we lose Kolo [Toure], [Emmanuel] Adebayor and [Emmanuel] Eboue who are suspended again.

"We also miss Thierry, Robin van Persie...the list is so long I must take care not to forget anyone."

Thierry Henry has reiterated he will be staying at Arsenal 'for life' and will not leave due to his injury troubles.

The Gunners captain has endured a frustrating season on the fitness front and it has prompted talk he could quit Emirates Stadium in the summer.

But the striker, who will not play again until next term due to groin and stomach injuries, is adamant he is going nowhere.

Henry signed a new four-year contract last year after Barcelona made a concerted effort to capture the France international.

And the 29-year-old insists he will not backtrack on that agreement, again pledging his commitment to Arsene Wenger's side.

"People in France and some over here are still saying I am going to leave," Henry told The Sun.

"I am not going to leave. Never. I am staying here for life.

"I have no intention of walking out on this club, whatever the situation is. At no stage this season have I ever thought about leaving.

"I love the club. I love the fans and I am 100 per cent behind the boss.

"When I signed my new contract I said I never wanted to kick a ball for another team and nothing has changed."

O'Neill: Arsenal still great

With Arsenal having been eliminated from the Carling Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League in recent days, many feel the team's season has been a failure, with even Arsene Wenger admitting his side have 'hit the wall'.

However, O'Neill feels Arsenal still have much to be pleased about this term.

"They are playing some of the best football in the country," he said. "This notion that they have only one way of playing and don't have a plan B, I just don't understand it.

"I wouldn't consider their season a failure. I wouldn't know how Arsene Wenger views it, but they are still contesting a Champions League spot at the moment."

O'Neill also feels that Arsenal's youngsters will benefit hugely from their exploits this year.

"They have been a fine side for some considerable time. From a distance, I thought this season they may not have the strength in depth of Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea.

"I think that has been disproved because some of the younger players have come in and shown their worth and it has not been a case of discarding them and waiting for another Carling Cup game to come along before playing them.

"They are actually putting themselves forward as genuine contenders for Premiership football and that's where they have gained and they will be much stronger for it this time next season."

Rosicky, Hoyte and Flamini all return for Villa Park trip

Arsenal have three players back from injury for the trip to Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Mathieu Flamini (foot), Justin Hoyte (hamstring) and Tomas Rosicky (groin) are all fit and have been named in Arsène Wenger’s squad. However the Czech international midfielder is only likely to make the bench.

However the Arsenal manager’s injury and suspension problems still loom large. He has four players banned on Wednesday. In addition Thierry Henry’s season is over because of damaged groin/stomach muscles while Robin Van Persie is still some way from fitness because of a broken foot. Alex Hleb has picked up a knee problem but thankfully it is short term.

“We have plenty,” replied Wenger when asked about the absentees for the game. “Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Eboue, Emmanuel Adebayor and Gael Clichy are all suspended. Henry and Van Persie are injured.

“Tomas Rosicky is back in the squad but it is a bit early for him. Hleb is injured. He has a little knee problem. But Flamini is back in the squad and so is Hoyte.”

Wenger - 95 per cent of the team is right

Arsène Wenger believes Arsenal have missed out on silverware this season by the smallest of margins.

The Frenchman described the past fortnight as “horrendous” after seeing his side end their participation in the Carling Cup, FA Cup and Champions League in quick succession. However Wenger believes his young team are developing rapidly and has set his sights high for their remaining 11 Premiership matches.

“I think 95 per cent of things are good in our team,” he told Arsenal TV Online. “But at the top level it is the five per cent that makes the difference.

"As hard as it is to take, I feel there are a lot of positives and although we have to correct [certain things] we can keep the basis of a strong team. This team is growing and becoming stronger and stronger.

"After such a disappointment [in the Champions League] it's difficult to pick yourself up again, but on the other hand I know how proud they are, how much they want to show that they have quality and finish as close as possible to Manchester United and Chelsea.”
