1 – Burj Khalifa, Dubai, United Arab Emirates : 828m, 168 etaje, terminat in 2010.

Burj Khalifa (arabă برج خليفة, română Turnul Khalifa), denumit anterior Burj Dubai (arabă برج دبي), este un zgârie-nori din Dubai, cea mai înaltă clădire (structură arhitectonică) construită vreodată de om, măsurând 828 m înălţime. Construcţia a început la 21 septembrie 2004, exteriorul fiind finalizat la 1 octombrie 2009; clădirea a fost inaugurată oficial la data de 4 ianuarie 2010. Costurile totale ale proiectului au fost de 1,4 miliarde de dolari. La data de 9 februarie 2010 platforma de observaţie de la etajul 124 a fost închisă publicului din cauza unei defecţiuni electrice.

Pentru a spăla cele 24.348 de ferestre, o piesă orizontală a fost instalată în exterior la nivelurile 40, 73 şi 109. Fiecare piesă cântăreşte o tonă. Maşina se mişcă pe orizontală şi pe verticală, cu ajutorul unor cabluri masive. În condiţii normale, fără aceasta maşină, ar dura 3 sau 4 luni ca 36 de muncitori să cureţe întreaga faţadă exterioară.

Rezultate financiare

În octombrie 2010 825 din cele 900 de apartamente de lux ale clădirii erau încă neocupate. Chiriile pentru un studio (cu geamuri imense, marmură şi lemn de esenţă scumpă) au scăzut la 1.800 - 1.900 dolari pe lună, de la 3.000 iniţial, în timp ce un apartament cu două dormitoare a scăzut la 4.300 de dolari pe lună, de la peste 7.000 cât se cereau la început.

Taipei 101 (臺北101 în chineza tradiţională, 台北101 în chineza simplificată, Táiběi Yīlíngyī în hanyu pinyin) este un bloc zgârie-nori în Taipei, Taiwan (Republica Chineză). Planificat de C.Y. Lee & Partners şi construit de KTRT Joint Venture, Taipei 101 este actualmente al doilea cel mai înalt bloc din lume, dupa Burj Dubai. Numele său original este Centrul Financiar Taipei, bazat pe numele său oficial în limba chineză: 臺北國際金融中心/Táiběi Guójì Jīnróng Zhōngxīn (Centrul Financiar Internaţional Taipei). Blocul este numit Taipei 101 pentru că are 101 de etaje.

Shanghai World Financial Center (Pinyin: Shànghǎi huánqiú jīnróng zhōngxīn) este un zgârie-nor foarte înalt (492 m) care a fost inaugurat pe 28 august 2008 în Shanghai, China. În aprilie 2009, el este a treia cea mai înaltă clădire din lume.

4 – International Commerce Centre, Hong Kong, China : 484m, 118 etaje, terminat in 2010

The International Commerce Centre (traditional Chinese: 環球貿易廣場) (abbr. ICC Tower) is a 108 floor, 484 m (1,588 ft) skyscraper completed in 2010 in West Kowloon, Hong Kong, making it the tallest building in Hong Kong. It is a part of the Union Square project built on top of Kowloon Station. The development is owned and jointly developed by MTR Corporation Limited and Sun Hung Kai Properties, Hong Kong's metro operator and largest property developer respectively.

Its formal development name is Union Square Phase 7 and the name International Commerce Centre was officially announced in 2005. International Commerce Centre was completed in phases from 2007 to 2010. Upon completion in 2010 the skyscraper became Hong Kong's tallest building, with the third highest roof in the world after the Burj Khalifa and the Shanghai World Financial Center.

Sun Hung Kai Properties also developed, along with another major Hong Kong developer, Henderson Land, the second-tallest skyscraper in Hong Kong, the 2 International Finance Centre, which is located directly across Victoria Harbour in Central, Hong Kong Island.

5 - Petronas Towers, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia : 452m, 88 etaje, terminate in 1998.

Turnurile Petronas, din Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, construite în anii 1995-1998 pentru birouri, sunt o reuşită inginerească colosală dar, pentru a le putea construi, arhitectul César Pelli şi echipa sa au trebuit să depăşească priorităţile aflate în conflict, lipsa materiilor prime standard şi instabilitatea solului.

Turnurile au fiecare câte 88 de etaje, din care 78 de etaje deservite de lifturi, şi au o înălţime maximă de 452 m, la vârful antenei montate pe acoperiş, ultimul etaj aflându-se la înălţimea de 375 m.

6 – Nanjing Greenland Financial Center, Nanjing, China : 450m, 66 etaje, terminat in 2010.

The Nanjing Greenland Financial Center (simplified Chinese: 南京紫峰大厦, also Greenland Square Zifeng Tower) is a 450-metre (1,480 ft) supertall skyscraper completed in April 2010 in Nanjing, China. The 89-story building features retail and office space in the lower section, and restaurants and a public observatory near the top. The tower’s stepping is functional, helping separate these sections.

The mixed-use tower, which overlooks Xuanwu Lake, became the second tallest building in China and the 5th tallest building in the world when topped out in 2008. An observation deck on the 72nd floor, 287 m (942 ft) above ground, provides an unobstructed, panoramic view of Nanjing and the nearby Yangtze River, two lakes and the Ningzheng Ridge mountains.

Marshall Strabala and Adrian Smith, who also worked together to design Burj Khalifa, designed the competition winning building for the Nanjing Greenland Financial Center. The design was taken over by Gordon Gill under the guidance of Adrian Smith throughout the post-competition design of the building complex. The complex was designed while all three of these architects worked at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill.

7 – Willis Tower, Chicago, United States of America : 442m, 108 etaje, terminat in 1974.

Willis Tower sau Sears Tower este cea mai înaltă clădire din Chicago, concomitent şi cel mai înalt zgârie-nor din SUA (World Trade Center a fost distrus) şi al treilea la nivel mondial. Această clădire este situată pe 233 S. Wacker Drive şi are o înălţime totală de 527 m. Willis Tower este folosit ca turn de observare şi de comunicare. Construcţia acestui zgârie-nor a durat 3 ani (1970-1973).

8 – Guangzhou International Finance Center, Guangzhou, China : 440m, 103 etaje, terminat in 2010

Guangzhou International Finance Centre (simplified Chinese: 广州国际金融中心; traditional Chinese: 廣州國際金融中心; pinyin: Guǎngzhōu Guójì Jīnróng Zhōngxīn) is a 103 story, 440.2 m (1,444 ft) tall skyscraper at Zhujiang Avenue West in Tianhe District at Guangzhou, China. The building was topped out at the end of 2008.[citation needed]

Construction of the building, designed by Wilkinson Eyre, broke ground in December 2005. When complete, the building will be used as a conference centre, hotel and office building. Floors 1 to 66 are used as office, floors 67 to 68 are mechanical equipment, floors 69 to 98 as a Four Seasons Hotel and in floors 99 and 100 is an observation deck. The hotel lobby is located on the 70th floor. The building was completed in 2010.

The building was previously known as Guangzhou West Tower and had a related project, the proposed Guangzhou East Tower which, at 475 m (1,558 ft), would have been even taller, though that project has been awarded to a different design by Kohn Pedersen Fox, the 530 m (1,740 ft) tall Chow Tai Fook Centre.

9 – Trump International Hotel and Tower, Chicago, United States of America : 423m, 98 etaje, terminat in 2009.

The Trump International Hotel and Tower, also known as Trump Tower Chicago and locally as the Trump Tower, is a skyscraper condo-hotel in downtown Chicago, Illinois. The building, named after real estate developer Donald Trump, was designed by architect Adrian Smith of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. Bovis Lend Lease built the 98-story structure, which reached a height of 1,389 feet (423 m) including its spire, its roof topping out at 1,170 feet (360 m). It is adjacent to the main branch of the Chicago River, with a view of the entry to Lake Michigan beyond a series of bridges over the river. The building received publicity when the winner of the first season of The Apprentice television show, Bill Rancic, chose to manage the construction of the tower.

Trump announced in 2001 that the skyscraper would become the tallest building in the world, but after the September 11, 2001 attacks, the building plans were scaled back, and its design has undergone several revisions. When topped out in 2009 it became the second-tallest building in the United States after Chicago's Willis Tower. It is expected to be surpassed by the One World Trade Center in New York City in the middle of 2013. Trump Tower surpassed Chicago's John Hancock Center as the building with the world's highest residence above ground-level and held this title until the completion of the Burj Khalifa. It is currently the tenth tallest building in the world.

The design of the building includes, from the ground up, retail space, a parking garage, a hotel, and condominiums. The 339-room hotel opened for business with limited accommodations and services on January 30, 2008. April 28 of that year marked the grand opening with full accommodation and services. A restaurant on the 16th floor, named Sixteen, opened in early 2008 to favorable reviews. The building topped out in late 2008 and construction was completed in 2009. The hotel is one of four four- or five-star-rated hotels in Chicago, and the building hosts a restaurant that is one of nine restaurants in the city with either a four- or five-star rating, according to the Forbes Travel Guide (formerly Mobil Travel Guide).

The Jin Mao Tower (simplified Chinese: 金茂大厦; traditional Chinese: 金茂大廈; pinyin: Jīn Mào Dàshà; literally "Golden Prosperity Building") is an 88-story landmark supertall skyscraper in the Lujiazui area of the Pudong district of Shanghai, People's Republic of China. It contains offices and the Shanghai Grand Hyatt hotel. Until 2007 it was the tallest building in the PRC, the fifth tallest in the world by roof height and the seventh tallest by pinnacle height. Along with the Oriental Pearl Tower, it is a centerpiece of the Pudong skyline. Its height was surpassed on September 14, 2007 by the Shanghai World Financial Center which is next to the building. The Shanghai Tower, a 128-story building located next to these two buildings and now under construction, will be even taller.

The International Finance Centre (abbr. IFC, branded as "ifc") is an integrated commercial development on the waterfront of Hong Kong's Central District.

A prominent landmark on Hong Kong Island, IFC consists of two skyscrapers, the IFC Mall, and the 55-story Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong. Tower 2 is the second tallest building in Hong Kong, behind the International Commerce Centre in West Kowloon. It is the fourth-tallest building in the Greater China region and the eighth-tallest office building in the world, based on structural heights; by roof height, only the Taipei 101, Shanghai World Financial Center, Willis Tower, International Commerce Centre and Burj Khalifa exceed it. It is of similar height to the former World Trade Center. The Airport Express Hong Kong Station is directly beneath it.

IFC was constructed and is owned by IFC Development, a consortium of Sun Hung Kai Properties, Henderson Land and Towngas.

In 2003, Financial Times, HSBC, and Cathay Pacific put up an advertisement on the facade that stretched more than 50 storeys, covering an area of 19,000 m² (0.2 million square ft) and a length of 230 m, making it the world's largest advertisement ever put on a skyscraper.
