CARLOS Tevez pulled off a double at Manchester City's awards dinner – and was tipped by chairman to become the world’s best player.

The Argentine ace capped a fine season by lifting both the supporters’ and the players’ player of the year trophies.

Tevez has netted 29 goals so far, with just Sunday’s trip to his former club West Ham to play, and has made a stunning all-round contribution.

Leading the tributes was chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak who said: “With 29 goals he has been the heart and soul of this team – he has been absolutely phenomenal.

“I have no doubt that he is going to become the best player in the world. It’s only a matter of time.”

The young player of the year, voted by the supporters, was Dedryck Boyata, while Adam Johnson’s super strike at Sunderland was chosen as goal of the season, and Craig Bellamy picked up performance of the season for his two-goal display in the 4-3 defeat at United in September.

Shaun Wright-Phillips was named the City in the Community player, and kit man Les Chapman lifted the award for outstanding contribution for his morale-boosting hilarity.

Carlos Tevez says he is determined to help to take the club to unchartered heights in the coming years.

The Blues’ Player of the Year also reckons City should forget targeting fourth spot next season - and instead concentrate on winning the title.

His words will be music to the ears of his legion of fans who have come to love his never-say-die attitude over the past year and who will be hoping he can finish the campaign on 30 goals if he can find the net one more time at West Ham tomorrow.

“I’ve really enjoyed my first season at the club, but this is only the beginning,” said Carlos.

Supporters queued from before 7am at the Stadium Box Office to guarantee their seat and the phones and the website have been busy throughout the day as the ground-breaking new Seasoncard continues to sell well.

Gianluigi Buffon, who won four league titles with Juventus, the UEFA Cup with Parma and the World Cup with Italy, has today explained why the best players reject massive Manchester City.
“It doesn’t surprise me that a lot of big players have turned down Manchester City,” said Buffon. “The best players in the world want to be playing for the top teams in the top three leagues, no more than five or six teams in Europe. It’s a very elite list and Manchester City have to accept the fact they are not one of them. I read that City were interested in me last summer. I don’t know if anything was tabled, but there is no way I could have considered it. I couldn’t justify leaving one of Europe’s most famous clubs for a team that are not playing football at the highest level.”
