Demigod represents something a little different from Gas Powered Games. It's neither a dense RTS like Supreme Commander nor an action-RPG like Dungeon Siege, yet it incorporates elements of both. It's difficult to describe in a sentence or two, but it does look like fun.

The game takes place on a large grid, of sorts. Maps have all sorts of fancy fantasy backgrounds like stunning waterfalls and impossibly huge superstructures, but the playing field itself is a series of walkways and pits. You take control of demigods, monstrous creatures battling to ascend into the heavens as full-fledged deities. These guys come in two flavors.

First is a more hands-off type, called a general, who possesses a wealth of passive abilities. Using him, your experience will play more like an RTS. Anyone craving a more action-oriented type of experience should try the assassin types, who function more like an action-RPG character with spells and other special abilities.

The game's setup is rather simple. On one edge are a row of bases you need to protect. On the map's opposite side are the enemy's encampments. Separating the two are the walkways, which are book ended with large portals. Through the gates regularly spawn soldiers who'll fight for you. Left untouched, these NPC fighters, who by the way cannot be controlled by you, will launch themselves at the constantly spawning enemy forces and engage in a sort of stalemate, roughly around the halfway point between friendly and enemy bases. With your demigod, your job is to tip the ever-raging battle in your favor to bypass enemy forces and ideally smash their structures.



While base killing isn't exactly a new kind of gameplay concept, the way you go about it seems interesting. You don't actually place your base structures; the spots on which they build are predetermined. To get them up and running you'll need to send your demigod out into battle. For every grunt NPC decimated in the ongoing skirmish you gain experience and money, which can be used to purchase building upgrades or even items to power up your demigod. From what we saw, you can buy rings and potions to increase a demigod's attack, speed, and magic ability.

Where to focus your attention during the game is largely determined by the type of demigod selected. With a general type, your power stems from the ability to better construct bases and build your own personal army. Then when you're out in the field of battle, your personal army can join forces with those already engaged and benefit from the general's passive abilities.

Before charging into battle, you'll have the ability to build additions to your main base, or castle, such as defense towers. Eventually the central castle will upgrade to allow for more structures to be created around it like trebuchets that can fling projectiles towards the middle of the map. Base upgrading happens automatically once you've achieved a specific battle score, and along with better structures, more powerful friendly monsters will spawn from the portals.



This seems like a good idea since it'll keep players engaged in the combat, trying to rack up battle scores as quickly as possible to strengthen bases and get more specialized NPC fighters like giants, catapultasauruses, and dive-bombing angels. After enough destruction is wrought you'll get access to superweapons, which can attack enemy bases directly.

In addition to your fights against waves of portal-born enemy fodder, your demigod will, as you might expect, have to fight other demigods. If yours is defeated, it's not out of the battle entirely. Instead you just sit for a timeout period before rejoining the action, giving the enemy a temporary advantage.

We didn't get to actually play the game, so we can't really saw how the general type of demigod will match up against the assassin. The latter can't build their own personal armies, relying instead on triggered abilities and the friendly uncontrollable hordes. One kind of assassin, called a torch bearer, can call ice from the sky, blast out ice novas, and even set himself on fire.

Since it's a team-based action game, we're also curious to see what kind of tandem demigod strategies will emerge. Since there are different kinds of generals and assassins, all with unique skills, it seems like tactical planning in 5 v 5 games could get pretty interesting.



As far as graphics go, the build we saw was still pretty unoptimized, so we can't really say anything for sure. In general the visuals have a much more distinctive artistic flair than something like Supreme Commander. The Rook demigod, a general type, appears onscreen as a lumbering castle. With a trebuchet on his back, attack towers for shoulders and a monolithic hammer, he's quite an impressive sight, particularly when he's swatting groups of enemy grunts, sending them flying off bridges into perilous pits.

Since it's based on the SupCom engine, you'll be able to take advantage of strategic zoom in this game to rapidly dart around the map. In case you're not familiar, this means you can use the mousewheel to quickly zoom in and out of battle, facilitating battlefield management. As for the demigod controls, they differ between general and assassin types. With generals you'll spend time drag-selecting your personal guard, whereas the assassins are more about hitting hotkeys to trigger skills like chain lighting and polymorph.

On track to release at in the fourth quarter of this year, Demigod is, as of right now, only on PC. If you saw what Gas Powered Games boss Chris Taylor had to say, though, it sounds like it could very well show up on Xbox 360.

Ohh man , m-am jucat numai ce olecuta in Turning Point : Fall of Liberty . Total dissapointment , setting-ul avea potential mare , dar nu prea au facut mare treaba cu storyline-ul . Chiar si la un nivel mai greu , jocul este foarte usor , mergi , impusti , colectezi gloante ca sa impushti si mai mult (parca esti Rambo ! :lol: ) , botii is prosti . Unreal Engine 3 is nice though . To think I waited for the fixed crack for so long ! :(

My advice guys : don't bother downloading it !

Though it's widely known for its acclaimed Battlefield games, the Swedish studio DICE does have a proud history of developing for a wide variety of genres. DICE has made racing games, pinball games, and even an equestrian game called Legacy of Rosemond Hill. With that said, Mirror's Edge is unlike anything DICE has made before. Indeed, it's almost unlike anything that we've ever seen before, but it nevertheless looks cool. If you had to describe it in a sentence, it's almost like a first-person parkour game. And if you haven't heard of parkour, then do a search for it on YouTube.

Begun in France, parkour is the practice of maneuvering fluidly around an urban environment, moving almost like a gymnast at times. That's at the heart of Mirror's Edge. You'll play as Faith, a courier in a city where the police state eavesdrops on all electronic communications. This dystopia is utopian in appearance, full of gleaming skyscrapers and roads so clean that you might be able to conduct surgery on them. The price for this orderly world is high, though, and noncomformists are shunned. That's where Faith steps in. She and other couriers navigate around the rooftops of this pristine, sun-drenched metropolis, delivering messages and other items that need to remain secret.

Mirror's Edge is a game about running for your life when the police, security guards, and even news helicopters are shadowing you. In the demonstration that DICE gave, the action included leaping from one rooftop to another, vaulting over fences and other obstacles, sliding under pipes and overhangs, and even engaging in some martial arts combat. (Faith reportedly will not use a firearm, so you won't be shooting in this game.)



Momentum is a key idea in the game. It's not enough that you're jumping around this environment. To perform some moves, you'll need to string together a bunch of maneuvers to build up speed. For instance, you can climb over a fence, which takes a few seconds. But what happens if you jump off a neighboring rooftop, do a parachute roll upon landing (so you don't lose precious momentum), and use the ensuing momentum to vault over the fence in a heartbeat?

If you've played games such as Tomb Raider, you know that you can stop after you maneuver around an obstacle, take a minute to figure out what you have to do next, and then go for it. Judging from the demo of Mirror's Edge, you'll have only seconds to analyze your terrain, partly because of the guys chasing you, but more because of the bullets they'll be sending your way. So the game is meant to be played at full speed, and to help, there's a special "Faith vision" that color-codes the environment, giving you clues about what you need to do. If you're atop a tall skyscraper and seem trapped, look across the street and you might see that the fire escape on the neighboring building is red. Run for it and jump, and hope you grab it on the other side.

The graphics engine for Mirror's Edge looks sharp, and the game really captures the feeling of a built-up urban area. But even more impressive is the drenching sunlight that almost bleaches out the omnipresent concrete in the city. It's so bright and warm that it seems as though you're in Los Angeles at the height of summer, and there's not a single cloud or smog bank in the sky. It's also a contrast to the current fad in gaming, which is to create gritty, run-down urban settings. The fictional city at the heart of Mirror's Edge has a distinctive look and feel, even while it tries to capture the soullessness of a city and a society. It all looks very cool, and also very fresh. Mirror's Edge is planned for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 for sometime this year.
