Sir Alex Ferguson sets Manchester United points target
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has set his side a target of 84 points to win the Premier League this season.

The Reds won the title with 80 points last season, nine ahead of rivals Chelsea and Manchester City.

But with Liverpool resurgent and Chelsea and City expected to mount improved bids, Ferguson reckons more is required this time around.

He said: “To win the league in England is very difficult.

“You need 84 points to win the league this season. Definitely. It was less last year, but you will need 84 this year.

“There is increased competition in the league. You expect Liverpool to be better, Tottenham as well, although they’ve not done any buying this summer. But you expect it to be a tough league.”

Eric Cantona has always been revered to as the new King of the Manchester United, but, this time around, even he will be overshadowed by a prince of the ginger kind.

Scholes Must've Hated Being The Center Of Attention
For his 17 years of loyal service to the club, Paul Scholes was rewarded with a very lucrative testimonial match, but he desperately tried to have the only player, who could ever remotely come close to stealing the spotlight from him when the New York Cosmos came to Old Trafford.

One of the most likeable qualities about the Ginger Prince has been his quiet, reserved demeanor, but, even though Cantona made his return, the game was about all that he sacrifices Scholes.

For nearly two decades, Scholes was one of the most clever players to ever pull on a football shirt, but this cunning attempt to divert the attention was one of his best ever.

Cantona and Scholes have both attracted respect for the way they could brilliantly influence a match with their genius, but that is really where the similarities ended.

Scholesy was a master of his trade and he was paid the ultimate compliment by receiving glowing tributes from his fellow professionals and, there's no question, that that had to be a very humbling moment for him.

The United midfielder was unlike any other modern professional player, because of the way that he conducted himself off the field. The limelight was never something that he craved, Scholes just wanted to play the game and go home to his family.

The King Enjoyed Playing Alongside The Prince
A prime example how simple Scholes was came from a personal experience back in December 2003. United beat City 3-1 at Old Trafford and with two headed goals to his name Scholes was definitely the Man of the Match. But, instead of going to the post-match celebration to meet-and-greet fans, Paul did just as he always did - go home - so the club had to send up Roy Keane to do the PR.

Now that his playing days are over, Scholes has taken up a role that Cantona, himself, seems to crave - a first-team coach at United. The problem may lie with the fact that the Frenchman has too big of a personality and would attract way too much attention away from the team, itself. Scholes though, has the same sort of simple mindset that most of the assistants under Ferguson possessed - a modest, team-first approach.

In these sort of games, the opponents matter, but Paul Scholes did his absolute best by making it about more of Eric Cantona or the reemergence of the New York Cosmos, but Manchester United supporters will surely show the Ginger Prince what he meant to them.
