I would like to begin a Triva Quiz here, for everyone who likes English language.
Total Quiz is open to everybody.

I will ask you a question and if you know the answer, you have to post it here.
Each first right answer will get a point.
Your points will be calculated according to the total of your correct answers.

The questions will be from different domains: grammar, civilization, music, sport ...
New questions are chosen randomly, from the “easy” and “average” levels to “difficult”.

The answers must be in English (exception if the question deals with translation)

Good luck.

#503 cerimi, "... 2. White? Isn't it like that? ..." - I think that muslims usually wear white at funerals. A bit awquard for people who only saw christian funerals. But black is also permitted, so I have no ideea.

#501 Imperator, "... 3. Why is it a bad idea in Taiwan to give a knife as a gift? ..." - the knife means war (aggression, harassment, danger) ? Or the knife can mean "Dude, go by yourself a shaver!"

#501 Imperator,
1. In China, where does an important guest sit at the dinner table?

At one end of the table, facing the door.

3. Why is it a bad idea in Taiwan to give a knife as a gift?

Because of the superstition: it is believed that giving a knife as a gift will damage (cut) the relationship between the two people .

#509 Imperator,

1. nothing deal with the door

Look what many sources tell:

Although Western customs have influenced some dining habits in China, the majority of old traditions still live on. The guest of honor will usually be seated facing the door of entry, directly opposite the host. The next most honored guest will be seated to the left of the guest of honor. If the host has any doubts about the correct order of precedence for his guests, he will seat them on the basis of age.

My variant was from Herbert A. Giles: The Civilization of China
It is extremely impolite to precede a visitor, as in passing through a door; and on parting, it is usual to escort him to the front entrance. He must be placed on the left of the host, this having been the post of honour for several centuries.
The left side is considered higher than the right. The reason is not known, but it is presumably due to the fact that the sun rises in the East which is on the left-hand side looking from North to South.

#510 matsu, let it be as you say, I found your variant too :)

#518 matsu, so?
Warm beer
One common stereotype of the English (and indeed most residents of the British Isles) concerns their love of "warm beer". English beer is usually served around room temperature.

British Beer is not cold, and not hot :)
