While I'm not a huge Fan of FnF movies, it was always fun to see the stunt work, the cars, the locations and, of course, the acting. Paul Walker always seemed to be a work in progress to me and after finding out some of his history the past couple of days, it's no wonder. He seemed to be a working guy trying to figure out what his next step was, not trying to be a big Movie Star. But there was always this sort-of rough diamond aspect to him and he was always likeable on the screen. The fact that he was a real carguy just improved everything about him. It was interesting to see his screen work because each movie seemed to show him getting better at it but still trying to achieve something...else. It was almost as if he was doing this but decided to be different. Maybe it was the surfer vibe or just how he was. But it was cool to see, especially in a Hollywood where everyone is either a Prius eco-greenie or like Biebs, big ego guys out of control with money. But, this weekend ended up the way it did. When the headlines on Google news broke, the first reaction was disbelief and a triple-take. How could it be possible? A 40 year old guy who had so many possibilities and walked the walk? Couldn't be. But it was and right in my backyard. Selfishly, my anger reared up, focusing on street racing etc. etc. etc. The 2 almost driver-age sons got the third degree about driving too fast on streets and who gets chosen to be a driver and a passenger. I teared up when I saw Tyrese Gibson at the crash site and his insties and Diesels too. All the while pondering about going there, finally my conscience decided to go check out the area and pay some respect to the deceased. I didn't want to deal with the media circus but with Gibson and Diesels posts, I had this weird need to do it and it felt right even though there were a lot of people. Almost impossible to explain the emotional reaction. It's actually rather difficult to see the site until you get up onto the top of the ridge. Most photos and videos don't really show the depth of the site or the street shape. You can 2-d through Google or use the visual street function which can help. The article photo is a view of the crash from across the street heading toward the vehicles original direction but doesn't show it very well. So let me describe the site a little. Always Evolving, the shop where the charity function was being run out of is located in Valencia, CA east of the 5 freeway, just across from Six Flags Magic Mountain. The entire area is basically part of the San Andreas Fault line and is a giant series of upthrust ridges and valleys. From above, AE is in a large complex of commercial buildings and development centers. Residential areas are located well to the east and south or further west. The commercial zone is bordered mainly by Newhall Ranch road and Copperhill drive which form a sort of east-west / north-south axis to the east of the 5 freeway. But it is also largely built on these upthrust hillsides forming a series of rolling parkways. Imagine Laguna Seca with a little less elevation gain and a lot of stepping in the hills. AE is at the midpoint of one of these hills on Constellation drive; Kelly Johnson (of F-104, SR-71, Constellation, Lockheed etc. fame) Parkway. is one major route to there. Kelly Johnson Parkway turns into Hercules Dr midway up. Coming out of AE, if you turn right, you hit KJ drive. Turning right again onto KJ Parkway, it turns into Hercules Dr at the top. The whole place is a paean to Lockheed aviation which ironically is now located in Bethesda MD so it can be closer to the politicos. All the streets here are mostly double lane both ways with sometimes an extra center lane (where 18 wheelers can park). So there is a lot of room to mess around in, especially on weekends when the commercial activity is going to be very reduced. Kelly Johson Parkway/Hercules goes uphill and is essentially a continuous right-hand sweeper with neutral camber. It's probably a 3/4 mile run mostly uphill to the actual accident site. Where the actual crash occurred is 1) at the top of the hill and 2) where Hercules starts and the road actually is starting to go straight. I took some shots of the accident site just to compare notes against what is being posted on the news. Of course, it's well after the fact now and most of the immediate evidence is gone. There's the burned and crunched trees, the missing light pole, the skid marks. In a nut shell, as soon as the road levels out, you can see where Roger Rodas crossed up trying to get the car to straighten out but he ran out of room. He must have been roughly running right up the middle of his 2 lanes, going uphill, turning right, pretty much where he needed to be. Maybe a little left of center within his 2 lanes. The car was probably where it needed to be generally speaking. Probably he had the throttle well down, getting ready to lift a little as the end of Hercules (where it hard-rights onto Constellation) is coming into view. Maybe 150 meters. And then something happened there right at the edge of the top. Some guys have been saying they saw hydraulic fluid and propose the steering blew there and Rodas had no control. Some say there were straight braking skidmarks; didn't look like it to me. Some say a tire blew. There are a few road cuts here and there but nothing like a rim cutting up the road seriously. Hard to tell. There's Botts Dots across all lanes and there's a manhole cover right there. It looked like the car was crossed up, spinning to the right, at the sidewalk. A tire hit right at the edge of the driveway curb just about where it transitions from a ramp edge to a full curb. A second tire impact mark is just beyond, about the right distance between front and rear axles. In between, is a missing light post. Just to the right of the missing light post by 6 feet or so is a tree, missing bark from an impact. Another 5-6 yards past the second tire mark is another tree in line with the first tree. It is burned heavily. Another tree is just beyond that about the same distance. That's the final tree. The car had to be going pretty fast. How fast, we won't know (until someone does the physics or if there's enough DEC memory to pull some coherent data) although hitting the curb, taking down a light post, hitting at least 2 trees before wrapping around the final tree has to give some clue. Maybe I can post the shots later. The Porsche GT3 is coming back into view as a really high-end car with high-end demands. If Walter Rohrl says it demands care, it must 'cause Rohrl. Must be a harkening to the past; anyone remember when someone remarked upon the 935s, 'You can't make a pig into a race car but you can make a mighty fast pig'? All I know is 2 cool guys didn't make it back from what should have been a simple boot and scoot. Never knew Roger Rodas or Paul Walker personally however, there but for the grace of God, go I. Rogers son supposedly saw the whole thing and told his mom. Paul Walker will go down as the modern James Dean and live on famously as another could have been. But it's just not the same thing as a living and breathing racer, father, son, brother, husband. So I said a couple of prayers and then had to walk away. Автомобиль допущен для эксплуатации на дороги общего пользования, значит прошёл все тесты и соответствует всем требованиям безопасности. 2. Да прямо Лада Калина какая-то. При разрешённой скорости не разлетается ничего и седоки остались бы живы. Про подъёмник вообще сказки - инженеры Porsche уж точно разбираются в конструировании автомобилей лучше интернет-гуру. 3. Автомобиль сложный в управлении, но к развесовке это не имеет ни малейшего отношения. 4. ЛИЧНО сначала надо быть способным оплатить стоимость автомобиля и содержание, а затем делать выводы. 5. От возгорания не защищён ни один автомобиль, в том числе электрические. Ultimul video de pe camera de sus arata totul cum sa intimplat dar nu in detalii- fumul din momentul paliturii si izbucnirea focului, la sigur masina mai avea si ceva dotari in plus de genul N2O + rezervorul, atunci focul si explozia e clar de unde sa luat. Totul sa intimplat atit de rapid ca idiotii care treciau pe alaturi nici nu au pus capul in miscare-sa scoate stingatoarele si sa incerece sa opreasca focul pina la pompieri - iar acela cu -drive uwai drive uwai las prinde si ias aplica o mama de pi**** casa inteleaga ce e viata si cit de fiana e ea........ Итог - Порше немецкое дер**о - для самоубийц.
